In a bid to elicit the views of the public over expansion of the Chennai Metropolitan Area(CMA), the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) will conduct a public hearing in Chengalpet on November 25.
In a press release, Chengalpet District Collector AR Rahul Nadh said that elected representatives, non-governmental organisations, representatives from commercial and industries sector and general public can participate in the meeting. The meeting has been scheduled in the Government Chengalpattu Medical College & Hospital auditorium at 3.00 PM on November 25, he added.
It may be recalled that the state government had declared in the draft notification in 2018 that the unbifurcated Kancheepuram that includes Chengalpet, Tiruvallur district and Arakkonam and Nemili taluks that were part of Vellore district and currently in Ranipet district would be part of the new CMA covering an area of 8,878 sq km. Against this backdrop, the meeting to elicit the public views is organised in Chengalpet.
The present size of the CMA is 1,189 square kilometres. It covers the entire Chennai district and suburbs in Chengalpet, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts, roughly covering about 35 kilometres in all directions from the city.
